In an effort to encourage residents to prepare for natural disasters, Governor DeSantis has signed into law House Bill 7073 which includes the 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. This initiative aims to provide financial relief on essential items needed for emergency situation.
The final 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday will take place Saturday, August 24
through Friday, September 6, 2024.
During this period, a wide range of disaster preparedness items will be exempt from sales tax, including:
- Pet leashes, collars and muzzles costing $20 or less;
- Flashlights, lanterns and pet beds costing $40 or less;
- Batteries and weather radios costing $50 or less;
- Coolers costing $60 or less;
- Smoke Detectors costing $70 or less;
- Tarps costing $100 or less; and
- Generators costing $3,000 or less.
