FEMA Teams Going Door-to-Door in Jacksonville to Assist Residents

October 21, 2024
In the ongoing effort to assist Duval County residents impacted by Helene and Milton, FEMA personnel will conduct door-to-door outreach efforts in Jacksonville neighborhoods.
Starting on Tuesday, October 22, FEMA teams will be on the ground from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m., Monday through Sunday, to help residents with the following:
  • Answering questions about disaster assistance.
  • Assisting with FEMA application submissions.
  • Providing information about recovery programs and available resources.
All FEMA representatives will wear identifying clothing and carry an official identification badge with a photograph. Residents are encouraged to ask for identification to ensure they are speaking with an official FEMA representative. During these visits, FEMA representatives will never ask for payment or sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers.
What to Expect:
  • FEMA teams will visit homes to offer support, particularly for those who may not have access to internet or phone services.
  • No appointments are necessary, but residents are urged to have documentation available, such as identification and insurance information, if applicable.
If you aren't home when FEMA is in your area, they will leave a flyer with additional information regarding available assistance.
Safeguarding Against Scams and Fraud:
Unfortunately, fraudulent activity often follows in the wake of disasters. To protect yourself:
  • Always ask for official FEMA identification. FEMA representatives will not request payment for assistance.
  • If anyone demands money for FEMA services or you suspect fraudulent activity, report it immediately to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or to the FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline at 1-866-720-5721. You can also email StopFEMAFraud@fema.dhs.gov to report a tip.
If you have any concerns or prefer to apply for FEMA assistance online, visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or call 1-800-621-3362.
